Location: Central North Island

The 37 km long Oteranga Bay to Haywards A transmission line forms a crucial part of New Zealand’s inter-island high voltage direct current (HVDC) link between Benmore Dam in the South Island and Haywards Substation, near Wellington.

This line is critical to ensuring an efficient and reliable electricity network for the North Island.

Electrix has been working on the Churton Park section of the line, which spans 14 sections and covers 9.5km, crossing challenging heavy bush terrain.

Our teams commenced work on this section of line on 7 January 2020 and completed it on 9 April 2020.

Due to Electrix’s high level of skill, experience and productivity, the job was completed safely, to a high-quality standard and 11 days ahead of schedule.

Up to 40 highly skilled Electrix staff were involved in making the project a success.
